The Jazz Conspiracy Big Band is a 16-piece ensemble dedicated to capturing the sound and spirit of the American big bands, from the Swing Era to the present day, cutting no corners to achieve a sound and energy level that both dancers and listeners appreciate. TJC Swingtet is a breakout group of eight from the larger group. The Swingtet features not only traditional swing sound, but includes blues, jazz, and soul influences and features arrangements by local composer and educator Kyle Simpson.
The Jazz Conspiracy (TJC) Big Band and TJC Swingtet (the 8-piece “little Big Band”) have performed concerts and dance shows throughout the Pittsburgh area, including the James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy on the North Side, Jergel’s Rhythm Grill in Warrendale, and Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. The band is available for private functions, weddings, dances and Pittsburgh-area concert series.
The TJC ensembles feature some of Pittsburgh’s finest instrumentalists who frequent such other local groups as Pittsburgh Opera, The Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, and The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Many of the ensemble members also teach instrumental music at colleges and universities in the Pittsburgh and tri-state area, or run music programs at area high schools.
TJC Big Band holds swing nights every first and third Thursdays of the month at the Northside Elks at 400 Cedar Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side.
